ENERGY TRANSFER PROCESSES IN HIGH-VOLTAGE CIRCUITS BASED ON MAGNETIC PULSE COMPRESSION [full paper]

This work focuses on analysis of different versions of modern high-voltage semiconductor-magnetic pulse generators (SMPG), which are an inalienable part of electric - discharge technologies that contain a serial or parallel converter stages in the input circuit. There is no in-depth study of the electrical, magnetic and energy characteristics of SMPG in well-known publications, since the processes corresponding to them in these circuits are considered only for a single cycle of SMPG operation and, in most cases, without determining the characteristics of saturable reactor (SR) magnetic flux density. The most widely used in practical applications are single-cycle SMPG, which in turn may differ in both the type of converter stages and their number. A special place among variety of SMPG versions is allotted by single-switch and two-switch SMPG differing by serial, parallel or serial-parallel converter stage. The advantage of SMPG circuit with serial-parallel converter stage is to eliminate the use of additional bias source, because the magnetization reversal process of saturable reactor and pulse transformer (PT) takes place during the charging of storage capacitor of this stage. Each modification of pre-transformer compression stage has significant impact on the threshold of realization of asymmetric oscillation mode, especially for two - cycle operation SMPG circuits.

PERFORMANCE ASSESSMENT OF DIFFERENT CLASSIFICATION METHODS FOR COUPON MARKETING IN E-COMMERCE [full paper]

E-Commerce environment represents typical commercial transactions that take place virtually online. UK Online Shopping and E-Commerce Statistics provided by Nasdaq estimates that by the year 2040, 95% of all purchases around the world will be performed through e-Commerce. In 2021, there will be 2.1 billion digital buyers worldwide, up from 1.66 billion in 2016 (Spiralytics). In 2019, the 31 billion digital coupons were redeemed up from 16 billion in 2014; 77% of consumers spend 10-50$ more than anticipated when redeeming mobile coupons (Invesp). These statistics and expected trends in the future motivated us to investigate a performance assessment of different classification methods for digital coupon marketing. For this purpose, we used available data provided by the Data Mining Cup 2015. We compared three methods for decision tree generation (C4.5, C5.0, Random Forest), Naive Bayes, Support Vector Machine, and Logistic Regression. We tested their performance within different data samples created from the initial dataset. The best accuracy was provided by the C5.0 algorithm (91,3%) and Support Vector Machine (91,5%). These machine learning methods also had the highest success rate for the other metrics.

AN IMPROVED CIRCLE SORT ALGORITHM [full paper]

The circle sort algorithm was introduced in 2005 by Bezemer and Olufem, and it is still not completely researched. The experiments show that the algorithm is comparable with the Shell sort algorithm. Its complexity is still not definitely determined. This paper gives optimized circle sort algorithm, which proved to be up to 25% faster than the original one, depending on data distribution. In the proposed algorithm the novel, more symmetric treatment of the central element is proposed, and unnecessary recursive calls are eliminated to improve the overall performance.

A NOVEL IMPLEMENTATION OF A BACKUP SERVER TO MANAGE PPPOE CONNECTIONS IN A PROVIDER NETWORK INFRASTRUCTURE
[full paper]

Since a number of different users are sharing the same physical connection to the remote service provider, a way is needed to keep track of which user traffic should go to and which user should be billed. PPPoE provides for each user-remote site session to learn each other's network addresses. PPPoE has the advantage that neither the telephone company nor the Internet service provider (ISP) needs to provide any special support. Unlike dialup connections, DSL and cable modem connections are "always on." Significance of presented work is describing function and issues of PPPoE connection as an important part of implementation solution in case of managing user connections in an Internet service provider network. Mainly, we focus on one of the most important and least discussed problem of PPPoE – the backup server implementation with the ability to back up any element in the connected network to increase the resilience of the entire system.

ROBUST SECOND ORDER SLIDING MODE CONTROL OF DOUBLY-FED INDUCTION GENERATOR FOR WIND ENERGY CONVERSION SYSTEM [full paper]

This paper presents a robust nonlinear control strategy based on second-order continuous sliding mode control called Super- Twisting Sliding Mode Control (ST-SMC) strategy of a doubly-fed induction generator (DFIG) integrated into a Wind Energy Conversion System (WECS). The Conventional Sliding Mode Control (C-SMC) strategy has a significant drawback, which is the chattering phenomenon, caused by the discontinuous control signal. The proposed ST-SMC technique based on second-order continuous sliding mode control reduces powers, currents, and torque ripples, while maintaining the advantages of the conventional method (C-SMC) such as the robustness against parametric variations of the DFIG. Simulation results show the effectiveness of the proposed ST-SMC strategy in reducing the chattering effect comparatively to the C-SMC one.

OBSERVATION OF STUDENTS BEHAVIOUR IN PROGRAMMING COURSES WITH AN AUTOMATED TESTING PLATFORM AT DIFFERENTLY GEOLOCATED UNIVERSITIES: A CASE STUDY [full paper]

One of the main tasks of a course is that it should motivate students to work continuously during the semester. Using the same course curriculum for students with different cultural backgrounds can have different impacts on student behavior and motivation. In this paper is conducted a case study at Technical University of Koˇsice and University of Ljubljana, where both universities used the same course curriculum, automated testing environment (ATE) and assignment to observe student behavior in a programming course. It was found that by shortening the period of testing days in ATE students will not significantly affect the amount of its continuous work. On the other hand, shortening this period has negatively impacted student score which can be frustrating for the student. Another finding was that on average 58% of submissions ends with failed build. Based on the manual testing it can be stated that in the course with the ATE students understand the topics of Android development better and devote the course 1.7 times more time than in the course without the ATE.
